all children are different and individual. when my son started school I was worried because he did'nt know his colours and the teacher said to me that by the time they start school it is more important for them that they can go toilet unaided and eat with a knife and fork etc than be acedemic. she also said that there are alot of kids that start school that can't. kids learn by example so just have family meals together and don't maike it a big issue and they soon pick it up.
References :
my daughter is almost ten, and it is only now i am trying to teach her the 'proper' way. she gets the food in her mouth and thats good enough for me. to be honest, i'm only teaching her now, so when we eat out, we dont get comments like you have got. i would let her do it her way, or maybe eating will become a huge issue for her.
